✨Creativity & Imagination ✨

Our Windmill children have discovered clay in their natural environment and have begun using it in their play.

Today one of the children moulded an apple and topped it off with a leaf and stem, amazing!

Genius Mooroolbark’s first excursion!
To celebrate nature play week we decided we would go on an excursion to Hookey Park!

The Windmill children had shown interest in Pirate play and treasure maps over the past few weeks, extending upon that we developed a scavenger hunt for the children to participate in, and our buddies from the Meadows room came along in their prams for a walk.

After we completed our hunt we had a free play on the playground!

The children reflected on their experience on our walk back to the centre- “I had so much fun”- Elsie (4YO)

This week is nature play week and the children have been spending a lot of time outside!

They have experimented with new tools and resources to grow and learn, Hoola Hoops are one of these new tools!

It has been amazing watching the children investigate different ways to use their resources.

The Glacier children have been enjoying their sensory play using Play Dough.
The children use rolling pins, stamps, and their hands to manipulate and mould the dough.
Play Dough is an amazing tool for learning, helping develop fine motor skills, imagination, hand-eye coordination, creativity and so match more.

What insect can you spot? 🐞🐛🕷🔎

Our Windmill children have loved investigating insects and collaborated on a group drawing experience where they drew the different bugs they love!

Some children decided to support their friends by drawing spider webs, and others focused on flying insects like butterflies!

Fine Motor Skills!

Our Windmill children have loved participating in line tracing experiences where they can use a variety of resources to form the lines they see on the page.

The experience helps develop fine motor skills, creativity, spacing of objects, observation skills, and learning about shapes!

‘At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.’

Lest We Forget.

This week the children learnt all about the Anzac’s and their sacrifices. Inspired by the story ‘Lest We Forget’ the children created their own Poppy Box to acknowledge and respect Anzac Day. The Poppy Box was taken down to the war memorial in Hookey Park where the children’s efforts could be part of the local communities day of remembrance.

Potion making!

The Windmill children have been busy cooking up different things this week!

We saw them creating potions, ice cream, pudding, and even fruit salad!

The children have amazed us with their collaboration in this play and their ability to understand the common goal at the end.

▪️Risky Play▪️

Children benefit so much from participating in risky play!

Risk allows children to push themselves and allows them space to progress in their development.

It also allows children to feel in control of their actions, learning and play; they learn boundaries in a safe, secure environment where they can be supported to achieve new and exciting milestones in learning.

Today our Windmill children began using pastels in their creative arts program.

They noticed the difference in texture to crayons and how much more pigment came off the pastels in comparison.

The children enjoyed using the pastels on the large pieces of paper on the easel as they could collaborate and discuss what they were doing with one another and walk around for a quick glance at one another’s work.

Child lead play!

Our Windmill children have been focusing on resilience this term as part of our RISE program.

Part of building resilience is focused on trying our best and trying again when we are unsuccessful.

The children took it upon themselves to begin their own little group learning sessions where they learn to lead, collaborate, and encourage one another.

Here we saw the children taking part in a group game of ‘Doggy, Doggy, Who’s Got The Bone?’

Many of the children had never played this before and followed the lead of one of the older children. After a few tries we heard great encouragement from our leader and the children were visibly thrilled with their progress.

The Joys of collaborative play!

Collaborative play is a vital aspect to children’s development as it allows them to attain skills in communication, team work, socialisation, and turn taking.

Children can learn so much by playing together, that’s why our team create environments where the children feel comfortable to interact with one another while being scaffolded and encouraged by their educators and teachers.

Today the children participated in Easter Egg hunts!
The Windmill children supported the Meadows children in finding eggs in the Nursery yard. The older children acted as guides and helped the nursery children walk around to find eggs scattered throughout their garden. We saw great bonds being formed between the children and loved seeing these nurturing interactions!
