Preschool took a road trip around Australia with The Wiggles! 🌏 They explored the landmarks featured in the book, learning about each destination’s significance and location. Preschoolers worked together to place their sculptures on an Australia map, discovering where their creations belong. Some even figured out how close their landmarks were and estimated travel times. “Maybe lunchtime till dinner the Wiggles were driving!” 🚗
They also discussed how Aboriginal people traditionally navigated using the stars and sun, sparking curiosity about their incredible knowledge of the land. ✨ A fun, interactive learning experience that blended geography, culture, and creativity!

Konnichiwa!
It was so exciting to share our very first Japanese Zoom session with preschool children last week! We began with a warm greeting of “Konnichiwa!” while waving and smiling at the children in Japan. Though some of the children were initially shy, they gained confidence as they took turns introducing themselves in Japanese.

The main focus of today’s session was on a traditional Japanese toy called Kendama. We received wonderful photos from Japan, and many of the preschool children were curious, asking, “What’s the name of the toy?” To make the session interactive, we created a DIY version of the Kendama using a paper cup, a paper ball, and some string. The children had fun using their handmade toys for the show-and-tell portion of the session. We were also fortunate to have Japanese children demonstrate how to play with the Kendama, which the preschoolers really enjoyed.

One of the highlights was watching a handbell performance of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” by the Japanese children, which captured the attention and imagination of the preschoolers. It was heartwarming to see how curious and engaged the children were in exploring Japanese culture.

Throughout the session, we aimed not only to introduce the Kendama but also to foster a love for different cultures and the joy of learning through creative play. The children left the Zoom feeling excited about the new things they had learned, and it was a wonderful experience of cross-cultural exchange.

Infants classroom sustainability project. We focused on reusing and repurposing materials for play.

How can we be more sustainable? This was the question we asked our infant’s children yesterday.
Miss Chloe showed the children an educational video about sustainable recycling, highlighting images of different types of rubbish and which bin they should go in. To help reinforce this concept, we set up two activities. The first was a sensory and fine motor task where the children had to identify items of rubbish and use tongs to transfer them into the correct “rubbish bin” placed next to them.
The second activity allowed the children to work together to create something for our room using sustainable materials. They took turns and collaborated to make their own representation of Earth. To start, they visited our HighScope area, where they personally selected materials for their Earth project, promoting independence and personalisation.
Once they gathered their materials, they returned to glue down their rubbish, turning it into an artwork. This also helped develop their fine motor skills as they had to rip, grip, push, and pull while creating their pieces.
Today was a success, with the children engaged and enthusiastic throughout both activities.

Our cultural exchange program has soared to new heights with our Japanese teacher, Miss Chi, travelling to Japan to visit our friends at ‘Momonokinomori’ Preschool in Nannan City, Osaka. During her visit, Miss Chi presented our Japanese friends with Australian animal gifts and a copy of the beloved ‘Wombat Stew’ book. The children also take excursions to the post office to send letters and drawings to our friends in Osaka, strengthening the connection and providing them with a rare and meaningful cultural exchange experience 🇯🇵🇦🇺🌏
