📢📢 Former Tropical Cyclone Alfred impacted SEQ and Northern NSW with high winds and heavy rainfall over the weekend, and more is predicted. The situation remains volatile as the system moves across the region.

As a result, 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟏𝟎 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, while we assess any damage and determine if they can safely reopen on Tuesday. Our centre, Goodstart Early Learning Norfolk Village, will be closed.

🔹 Safety is our priority. Before reopening, we are checking for damage, power and water outages, and essential supplies.
🔹 Families will not be charged for closure days; these absences won’t count towards your child's records.
🔹 We’ll provide updates via email, SMS, and here as the situation evolves.

🌀 Important Notice: Centre Closures Due to Cyclone Alfred 🌀

Following the Federal Government’s declaration of a CCS emergency period, Goodstart is closing centres in the likely impact zone of TC Alfred.

The centres will close tonight and remain closed over Thursday and Friday to give our centre teams time to prepare ahead of the cyclone crossing the coast and to ensure they are safely at home when the worst of the weather hits. Families have been advised of the closures, and we will update on centre reopenings as soon as possible.

Please note that not all Goodstart centres are closed, however Goodstart Early Learning - Norfolk Village is. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that fees will not be charged for the days the centres are closed.

We are continuously monitoring the situation and will provide updates on reopening as soon as possible.

We appreciate your understanding and will keep you updated as the situation evolves. Stay safe

As I (Kim - Centre Director) was scrolling through LinkedIn, I saw this post. As all of us on early childhood are reflective practitioners, I’ve been thinking about this and our centre.
The children at Goodstart Norfolk Village, don’t THINK their teacher likes them, they KNOW and FEEL it!! We are all about relationships and if we don’t have a reciprocal relationship with our children and their families, then no learning will ever happen.

We absolutely love books and the places they can take us. Our love is contagious as you can see our children love look at books all throughout the day. As Dr Seuss says “you can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.”

Yes, we have been very quiet on our socials. We have been extremely busy developing secure and reciprocal relationships (educators with educators, educators with children and children with children).

Yesterday our Centre Director, Kim, had the wonderful opportunity to come together with some of her Centre Director peers for professional conversations at Goodstart Early Learning Hope Island. The focus was on our Sleep and Rest Procedure and Reflective Practice. As you know, at Goodstart, we continuously reflect and review our safety practices to ensure that we are evidence informed and acting in the best interest of all our children.

We were greeted by their Centre Director, Kelly Mace, who showed us around her centre with absolute pride. Goodstart Hope Island is a beautiful Centre with amazing and inviting learning environments, including both inside and the lovely outdoors. It was evident as we looked around, that they have educators who really care about the children in their service.

It seems that one of our kindergarten children has started a trend with odd shoes! So today, his friends and teachers decided to support this initiative and we all had on odd shoes. You can imagine his delight when the teachers not only had odd shoes on but did a little dance of excitement at this new trend. If you want to see the dance, feel free to pop in and have a look around!

They say that there’s no need to reinvent the wheel … unless you attend our kindergarten and have the ability to problem solve 🤔 Yes, you can see correctly, the wheel (tyre) was reinvented from using square linking blocks.
