Happy NAIDOC Week everyone! All the educators and children here at Hinterland Early Learning Centre have been engaging in lots of rich, meaningful, educational and cultural experiences this week in honour of NAIDOC Week. Our educators are always planning, delivering and implementing purposeful play experiences and educational programs for the children to learn from, explore and enjoy. This week the children have explored the purpose of NAIDOC and why we celebrate it, learning about culture through food, nature, music, sensory play, school readiness skills, art and dance.

Here are a few of our experiences from this week we would like to share. 🙂

We were super lucky to have a special visit from the local fire brigade last week. Here at Hinterland Early Learning we are always looking for opportunities to connect, engage and collaborate with our local community and family members to provide fun, enriching and educational experiences for the children!

All the children had such a fun time meeting all the lovely firefighters and seeing all of their special fire fighting equipment including their fire protective gear, the big hoses, the lights and hearing the siren!🚨🔥

Our brand new sandpit was finally finished today 🎉 All the children absolutely loved having a play in the fresh sand and we’re so excited to get back outside. We are fortunate to have such fun and purposeful areas around our yards for the children to engage and play in.

Today we enjoyed an Indigenous cultural workshop consisting of making jewellery, grass skirts and dot painting. We collaborate with our sister centre The Village. What a fantastic and informative experience to help build on our Aboriginal knowledge.

Today was world epilepsy awareness day. Here’s a couple of keyword signs for those who manage the disease with bravery

Ramadan Mubarak to all our educators and families for the start of Ramadan today.

The luck of the Irish be with you today for St Patrick’s day! 🍀 All of our rooms del Ed into Irish culture and fun with lots of green sensory play, dress ups, rainbows and trying to make a rainbow with the hose! Kindergarten made leprechaun masks and we all loved our green spaghetti, green popcorn (older room) and green hommus! What a fun way to celebrate the cultural day.

A mini reunion with our Kindergarten children who graduated in 2022 coming back for an afternoon tea and discussion with the new kindergarten children about big school. It was so amazing to see almost the whole class come back to visit us # # # thank you and again we wish you all the very best!

Holi- the festival of colour in Hindu culture is a perfect opportunity for us to have some colourful fun using coloured powders. Children and staff had an absolute ball!

Bush kindy last week! Was a beautiful day and we were aware of the sun so apart from our running races we hung about in the shade.

Some of our educators participated in a key word sign workshop last year. Keyword sign is a fabulous tool to assist children in communication- even if they have no disabilities. We are incorporating some basic key words into our classes this year to assist all children to communicate to each other and their educators.

Our junior yard set up this morning was ready for all our little friends to develop their gross motor skills with a mini obstacle course, balancing beams, target throw game and of course our bikes and the climbing fort with slide. We also had a mat ready to go with cushions and our special chair for our friends who aren’t quite mobile yet or those who just needed a rest!

Lots of learning about letters, numbers, shapes and sizes happening in our Kindergarten room with our amazing ECT Miss Tarsha. Miss Tarsha has over 20 years experience with early years including primary school teaching and is creating so much fun for our children this year in their learning! The children are so excited to come to kindy then excited to share with their families everything they have learnt xx

Classroom displays

A busy week at Hinterland this week with lots of fun experiences happening in each room but the biggest excitement was our new pet - ‘Birdie’ the cockatiel! Birdie is part of the senior kindy class and is learning how to whistle! Come say hello - but just watch your fingers as he’s still learning to not bite!

Bush kindy is a big part of our program here at Hinterland. We love the access we have to the amazing parkland behind our centre. All ages access this free program and the benefits are huge - not only do children connect to their local community and nature, they continue to explore their gross motor skills, care for the environment, engage in problem solving, critical thinking and build independence, risk intelligence and confidence. The outdoor experiences also promote collaboration and team work.

An amazing product for school lunch boxes. I use these for my children and they stay frozen the whole day. Perfect for our Queensland summers!
