Congratulations to Jason Drage from Towns Football Club who was announced as the Midwest Volunteer of the Year on the weekend!

Jason played all of his junior years at the Towns Football Club, then went on to play Colts and League for many years as well. Jason effectively grew up at the club with both his parents being life members. There isn’t a volunteer position that Jason hasn’t done and would have given more than 40 years in service to the club.

He has officially held his current role as Junior Coordinator for 8 years now, and Vice-President for 3 years. But he has coached, umpired, and worked around the club for a lot longer.

He has been a tireless volunteer for Towns Football Club for many years and always goes about his role quietly and without any fuss or need for recognition. The hours he commits are countless on both a junior and senior level and the club is privileged to have him do everything he does.

Jason will now get to attend the Sandover Medal where he has a chance of being named the WA Volunteer of the Year!

Last Friday we had our high school carnival. Congratulations to all winners:
West Coast Eagles Schoolboys Cup Year 7/8 - Nagle Catholic College
West Coast Eagles Schoolboys Cup Year 9/10 - Geraldton Senior High School
Fremantle Dockers Schoolgirls Shield - Geraldton Senior High School (A massive thanks to Harry Taylor who also ran a skills clinic with the girls)

The day also wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Clontarf Foundation and Geraldton Sporting AC Gsac who provided umpires and support staff throughout the day.

Yesterday we had our Fremantle Dockers Shield Primary Interschool carnival. We had 12 schools attend from around Geraldton and it was a great day! Congratulations to Wandina Primary School and Allendale Primary School for winning their respective divisions.

A massive thank you to all schools, teachers and students for making this day possible. A huge shoutout to Clontarf Foundation for providing umpires for all matches throughout the day! Also special mentions to Geraldton Sporting AC for helping out and continuing to support WA Football.

Footy Focus: Tamati Smith, Mullewa Football Club

Welcome to the Mullewa Football Club 📍 This week’s Footy Focus photographer is Tamati Smith, a proud Wajarri/Badimaya man from Yamaji Barna country.

Tamati shares, “Mullewa Football Club has struggled over the years to maintain a team but it remains the only hub in this town 100Km from Geraldton for sports. Without it I believe that hope, purpose and aspirations would be severely diminished for youth from this area and they need this especially the young women.” 🙏
