Family day care service available Monday to Thursday, 7.30am to 4.30pm. I've been operating a family day care service with Bright Stars Family Daycare since my first son was 11 months old.
I had previously gained experience in long day care and completed my Diploma of Children's Services, so it seemed like a natural step to make when we began our own family. We have grown to love sharing our home and family, the close friendships and learning opportunities from a small and mixed age group is very rewarding. We continue to change and add to the learning environment; children are now
Operating as usual
I would like to let you all know that as a family we have decided to put Natural Steps Family Day Care on hold. Thank you to all of the support from our families, friends and colleagues over the last few years ###
Natural Steps Family Day Care
Happy Easter Everyone! We've been using some traditions of Easter within our play; exploring chocolate scented soap foam, black glue and watercolour decorated eggs, smashing paint filled eggs onto cardboard, transcient art Easter eggs, and of course making hot cross buns!
So much more than footprint painting - gross motor, sensory, balancing, colour mixing, taking turns, communicating, shared experience, excitement, enthusiasm and wonder - endless learning opportunities from such a simple activity.

It's great to be back! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. We've got some vacancies which we'll be looking to fill up in the New Year too.
Some of our school holiday play and exploration
Easter baking and activites
.......and some things to keep us busy inside and in the air-con!
All ready for the hot week ahead!
Casual spots available Monday's and Thursday's from now until June!
A beachy exploration.....
Following on from last week we used our tool skills to deconstruct a couple of old speakers. An opportunity to develop persistence and determination, with the thrill of discovering wires, circuits and magnets inside!
Today we revisited some tool work practice and created some sculptures. The children amazed me with their increased competence and responsibility for safety.
I think this is the first time my name and 'creative' have been in the same sentence! Children can bring us out of our comfort zone and if we embrace it we can gain so much!
So much interest and enjoyment coming from the garden at the moment, we're all loving this weather!
To enhance the children's sense of belonging I have finally made time to add a children's photo board to the environment and names to their individual towels. Not the prettiest work I've ever done, but I'm sure the children will like them nonetheless!
We've been very busy lately attending the WA Early Childhood and Care Conference and further Nature Play training on the weekend. All of which has been extremely inspiring and encouraging, and I'm now bursting with ideas for improvements and changes that I'd like to incorporate into our philosophy, environment, and everyday practice. I'm sure some things will be easy, others will require practice and a lot of work, and some may not work at all; I'm learning alongside, through and together with the children. So here's some pics of what we've learning together recently.
Harvest time! The children were rather excited that they were finally able to pull up the vegetables, especially digging around to find all of the potatoes - it was like finding treasure!
Some of our first creations from the mud kitchen!
Inspired by the children's interest in writing we've had an ongoing project involving some loose parts; shells, coloured pebbles, rocks and bits of wood, combined with some opportunities to explore line and pattern making.
The children asked to do more playdough with the beads and gemstones. We ended up with funny faces, beads threaded on sticks, and some creations that could even fly!
Making some special Mother's Day gifts
A child that has recently started coming here loves animals so I set up this invitation to play (1st picture), but I just love how the children find their own way to use the resources (2nd picture). Can you spot our pet lizard that we looked after for a few hours before releasing into the wild?!
......and squishy, gooey, stretchy slime!
Earth Day activities
The children loved this baking soda and vinegar experiment, using the pipettes is a great way to strengthen their little fingers too.
