The Main Lesson is an integral part of Steiner education.
Students are taught the Main Lesson, an integrated, thematic block of work taking up the morning session of each day for 3 weeks. The Main Lesson allows children to study a subject in depth.
Children produce their own Main Lesson books which become their workbooks, creating them during each Main Lesson cycle. They construct their own textbooks that record their experiences and what they have learned in class. The Main Lesson isn't restricted to workbooks though, at Leaning Tree you will see the teachers taking students out of the classroom providing experiences where the child is engaged, active and joyous through movement, speech work, music and hands-on activities. Here all the child's faculties are reached and nourished. Head, heart, hands ♥
Open Day Sunday 25th August 10am - 12.30pm
Last week the whole school spent the day at the Chapman River for their annual river walk. Deep respect and reverence for nature can only come as we immerse ourselves into it. The children’s senses were awakened by the wonders that the beautiful river offers, its wildness and calm. Wildflowers galore, a rushing river (the highest it’s ever been!) and a glorious day to top it all off. We give thanks to Mother Nature for providing us with this amazing classroom!

Our early years at Leaning Tree allow children to explore freely. Sensory play in the sandpit allows for communication, creativity and imaginative play. Children problem solve and start to think critically all under the banner of play. Here we have the time...

Handwork is an integral part of our curriculum.
Children are immersed into a world of colour and patterning whilst completing their handwork projects. Crochet is particularly challenging for children as they have grown used to the knitting relationship with two hands. Now they have to grasp a new concept and way of being. Something that many find challenging in the beginning. As the child moves through these challenges with any handwork project they learn that with perseverance and patience, they can achieve. All the time, fostering a sense of wonder, thinking capacities, problem-solving, concentration and self-regulation.
These skills are then transferrable to other areas in learning and life.
We look forward to welcoming our little rays of sunshine back on Monday 15th July 🌞

🌈🔬✨ Science Magic in Action! ✨🔬🌈
Ever wondered how coloured liquids can soak through paper towels and create beautiful blends of colours? Our Seabreeze Class 3 students recently learnt all about the process. Here's a quick dive into what they observed and documented:
When you dip a paper towel into a coloured liquid, the liquid travels up the towel through tiny fibres. This process, known as capillary action, happens because the liquid molecules are attracted to the paper towel fibres.
As different coloured liquids meet on the paper towel, they mix. This creates a spectrum of new colours, making stunning patterns and gradients.
This simple yet fascinating experiment is a fantastic way to explore basic scientific principles and enjoy some colourful creativity.
Give it a try and share your masterpieces with us! 🎨🧪💦
🌿✨ Our students embrace the spirit of unity by creating carefully handcrafted pieces that symbolise connection, understanding, and harmony. Each artwork is a step towards fostering a brighter, more inclusive future.
Join us in celebrating creativity and community! 🎨🤝

🌟 Here at LTSS, French knitting is more than just creating beautiful items—it's about the journey of learning! 🧶
Emphasising the process over the product helps our students develop patience, creativity, and fine motor skills. Each stitch is a step in their growth, fostering mindfulness and a love for handcrafting that can last a lifetime.

🪐💫Lighthouse Class 6 💫🪐
In the Lighthouse class, bright with knowledge's gleam,
A creative student dared to dream.
With pen in hand and mind so keen,
She wrote of Saturn’s wondrous scene.
Her words were like stars, they shone so clear,
Persuasive text that all could hear.
She spoke of rings and skies so grand,
A cosmic home, a wondrous land.
Her teacher smiled, so proud, impressed,
By words that stirred hearts from their rest.
For in her lines, a truth was spun,
That stars can reach when dreams can run.
