LOVE POLICE PRESENTS
GOANNA
CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF SPIRIT OF PLACE
With guests

Forty years on, and with their messages of positive engagement in Indigenous rights and environmental protection more relevant than ever, Australian icons Goanna return to celebrate their multi-platinum, game-changing debut album ‘Spirit of Place’.

In the early ‘80s, in the midst of Aussie Rock’s golden age, Goanna helped forge a new Australian identity. Before Midnight Oil and Paul Kelly addressed similar issues, the iconic ‘Solid Rock’ stoked a fire for Indigenous rights that hasn’t gone out, while the anthem of ‘Let The Franklin Flow’ was a call to arms for the emerging environmental movement. Soulful, lyrical, brimming with musicality and creative volatility, Goanna mixed classic folk song craft with spirited roots rock, helping to establish a musical thread that remains vital and ubiquitous in Australian music today.

In 2022, Shane Howard, Rose Bygrave, Marcia Howard and Graham Davidge, with special guests, embark on a new journey. Reigniting the Goanna spirit once more and paying homage to their classic songs.

We are lighting up purple(ish) this weekend for Purple Day to shine a light on Epilepsy. Check out local legend Lorelie and her fundraising ride for Epilepsy WA and if you get a photo of the QPT tonight pop it online with and tell us how close we got 😉

teenager Lorelie Dalle sets off early on her big 70km bike ride in her bid to raise $7000 for Epilepsy WA on Friday March 25 to beat the weekend rain. Lorelie’s challenge will see her family set off earlier than originally scheduled due to forecast heavy rain on the weekend, so instead they depart at 6am on Friday from Northampton, aiming to arrive in Geraldton before midday. We wish her all the best to reach her destination safely, and meet her great fundraising target for support services run by Epilepsy - see link in comments. Such a wonderful way to , raise and raise vital funds for our unfunded charity! 💜

The deep dive into the QPT archives continues, and this week we're featuring the very first booklet produced to promote the official opening event! 📖👀

"The first regional theatre of its kind to be commissioned and built outside the metropolitan area in WA was officially opened by the Governor of Western Australia; Sir Richard Trowbridge on the 27 March 1982. The Governor was introduced by then Mayor; Lyle Harris.

"Amongst a cast of performers, the star drawcard was Barry Crocker with the Geraldton Guardian reporting his 'name has become as easily recognised in Australia as that of the Kangaroo'.

"Eight more consecutive nights of diverse performance followed. " - Lorin Cox

💚It’s Coeliac Awareness Week 2022! 💚

🔦 This year we're shining a light on the little-known link between coeliac disease and iron deficiency to raise awareness and increase diagnosis rates. Did you know 1 in 20 men and women with coeliac disease will experience low iron prior to their diagnosis? Are you experiencing iron deficiency or related symptoms? Could it be coeliac disease?

1 in 70 Australians are estimated to have coeliac disease, yet roughly 4 out of 5 remain undiagnosed. Early diagnosis of coeliac disease reduces the risk of long-term health complications and can have profound impact on a person’s quality of life.

Find out more about our campaign over at Coeliac Australia.

💚💚 We are aiming for a green light but our very old lights are a bit temperamental - we can’t wait for our new ones!

The birthday countdown continues, and this week we're stepping back into the the time before our iconic red seats, lush gardens or the fabulous front fountains were even a thing! 😱

Fun fact about those luscious gardens: Construction of the QPT happened to be completed during International Year of the Tree, and regular requests from the public for more trees contributed greatly to the beautiful gardens we have today 🥰💚
