🚒CFA VISIT🚒
What a great time our kinder children had meeting some local members of the CFA today.
We learned about emergency services, how to contact them by calling 000 and what to do in case of a fire (stop and crawl out of the area).
We also had a turn at sitting in the fire truck! So fun!

🌱 NATURE WALKS 🌱 Some of our centres are lucky enough to have beautiful parklands within strolling distance - and can take full advantage of them on sunny days as part of our excursion programs! A nice way for our younger children to experience their environment safely.

When your little one lets out some big feelings in the form of a meltdown, it can be stressful and frustrating - for everyone! As educators we have many years of experience navigating big feelings, and in centre we try to use strategies to help your child emotionally regulate before things come to a head! We've put some of these tips and tricks for dealing with big feelings into our most recent blog post. Check it out HERE: http://bit.ly/43eUoa6

Sign In VIDEO

Check out Genius Collins Street's unique way for preschoolers to sign-in in the morning! This method gives our children a strong sense of belonging; they see their name, and know they're an important part of Genius. This activity helps to teach our little learners name recognition, gives them a more profound sense of self and boosts their confidence as they feel part of our community. Younger rooms have a simpler version using our children's photos. It's an important part of our morning routine and so sweet to see our little ones take part proudly! 🧡

Some of our educators Nicole, Jane, Michael and Lacy got a taste of stardom recently as they helped us film some exciting things with Care For Kids at our Reservoir centre. Can't say it's always as glamorous as this on a normal day at Genius, but there's definitely never a dull moment! ⭐️

Making meal times fun creates an environment for our little learners to want to explore new flavours and enjoy the important ritual of eating together. Food has always been an excellent teacher for children, discovering new flavours - experimenting with salty, sweet and sour - exploring cultures through cuisine or learning about food groups. At Genius, our Nutritional Ninja program enhances meaningful mealtimes with children and engages them to form healthy relationships with food. Our program educates children about the importance of enjoying various healthy meals to fuel their bodies, and is often run by our in-house chef. Do you have a budding foodie in your house?

Easter is nearly here! ✨ A certain bunny will visit very soon, and our children in centre are getting excited for the beloved egg hunt 🐣. Despite modern Easter hunts focussing on chocolate eggs, traditional Easter activities actually do not need to be sugar fuelled to be fun. If you've got a preschooler or toddler in your home, you may well be looking for alternatives that don't involve heaps of sweets. Why not shake up the traditional egg hunt with one of our different ideas this Easter? Check out the full list on our blog. http://bit.ly/3FKNHlK

The end of daylight savings is happening soon on April 2nd, and for many parents it doesn’t mean you ‘get an extra hour’s sleep’ like it used to! When you move your clocks back in autumn, some older babies and toddlers can struggle with the change. A lot of parents dread this time, worried about having a grumpy little learner on their hands. There are a few things that can help this transition every six months, check out some of our ideas for getting prepared via our blog! http://bit.ly/3JMERGV

Our Kindy children at Genius Childcare Collins Street are currently learning about sounds, words and language, which will help them develop a rich vocabulary and self-expression. Literacy is one of life's most essential skills, helping form the foundations of reading, writing, communication and storytelling. While we don't want to push our children too much before they begin school, our educators do assist them in exploring language to build the small foundations that will help them on their educational journey. Most children are very excited to take these small steps! 💛

It's this week, with occurring on the 21st of March! It is a day that was created to celebrate cultural diversity and promote inclusivity and respect for all cultures in Australia. At Genius, we of course celebrate our differences in culture every day, however Harmony Day in particular is a great opportunity to honour and explore the diversity found within our centres even more deeply! Check out some of the ways we examine diversity and demonstrate inclusion in our centres, as some of the activities we will be exploring next week in honour of Harmony Week. http://bit.ly/3FlBiVw

Messy Play 💛 Our little learners love Messy Play (otherwise known as sensory activities) - as seen here at Genius Childcare Pyrmont. This helps them stimulate their senses and improve hand-eye coordination and motor skills. Sensory play includes anything that stimulates the senses: touch, smell, taste, sight, hearing - and is crucial in brain development. It's super fun, but sometimes super messy - which is why we love to do it at Genius! Read more about the benefits of sensory play here: http://bit.ly/424eaVb

13/03/2023

✨ INVITATION TO PLAY ✨ Based on the Reggio-Emilia theory, an invitation to play provides children with a space to create their own learning without any 'rules' in place. In this example our educators have created a little world experience exploring sea creatures. They set no guidelines for the outcome of the experience. Instead, they listened to each child's observations and feelings about the activity, allowing them to create meaningful learning opportunities that cater to the needs and wants of each child. Watch closely, and you'll see a lot of intuitive learning going on here! 💛

✨🥳 CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS 🥳✨ Birthdays are significant milestones for children, and it's beautiful when they can be recognised and enjoyed along with friends. Little ones develop a strong sense of belonging and a deeper understanding of identity when engaging in such celebrations with their peers and educators! We recently celebrated a few special educator birthdays in Genius Childcare Mont Albert, and the children were only too happy to take part in the festivities!

This little learner loved creating a spectacular collage at Genius Pyrmont using natural resources. Being outdoors and collecting items like fallen leaves and seed pods encourages our children’s sense of curiosity and respect for their environment. What has fallen to the ground has a new purpose in these gorgeous little art projects. Thanks for sharing Genius Childcare Pyrmont - Harris Street

Putting your child into childcare can be daunting, but there are many proven benefits for children who begin their educational journey in a long day-care. This environment provides an early learning setting for children to learn social skills, friendship and emotional regulation. If you feel nervous about your child beginning early education, and not sure where to start, check out our post on the benefits of childcare on our website: https://www.genius.edu.au/blog/the-benefits-of-being-in-childcare

Pattern blocks are the perfect STEM resource for children as they provide endless possibilities for play and build critical skills in children's development. STEM activities have many benefits for children both now and into the future.

These include:
🧱 Laying the foundation for social and emotional intelligence
🧱 Increasing a child's confidence
🧱 Fostering opportunities to predict, plan and report.

Our kindergarten children had a great time identifying, creating, and extending patterns with these excellent pattern blocks! Thanks for sharing Genius Childcare Collins Street

Genius Childcare Beaumaris' first excursion for 2023 was all about supporting our in-house chef by accompanying her to our local Food Works to collect a few groceries needed for our meals. The children in our Aspen room (kindergarten age) also learnt about essential road safety rules during this outing which included crossing roads at the designated crossing point and waiting for the green walking signal before looking both ways & crossing the street. Looking forward to enjoying more community excursions with our older children throughout the year!

Start by writing one letter or your child's name in white crayon, and sit back and let them enjoy the process of revealing the different shapes and have fun with it! 👏🏼

Materials needed:

We Are Australian sung in Aboriginal Language

Aboriginal Australian culture forms an important part of our curriculum at Genius Childcare. It's never too early to teach your child about Australia’s rich history, including Indigenous stories, celebrations and customs spanning over 50,000 years. At Genius Childcare, we encourage our children to be creative while exploring these important topics. We’ve put some ideas together to help you introduce the topic of Australian Aboriginal culture to your child. Check them out via the blog section of our website!

We love exploring many sports with our children through our Genius life skills program - including yoga! Yoga is not only fun for children but has many advantages such as improving fitness, increasing muscle and bone strength, reducing stress, improving sleep and increasing energy. As parents, you know preschoolers have a lot of energy to burn throughout the day, and teaching yoga at home is an excellent way to explore mindfulness and keep little ones healthier and happier. Check out our blog post on the benefits of yoga for little learners: https://bit.ly/3GoKBot
