And then came VAD!

The presentation of the new Roland VAD (V-Drums Acoustic Design) in 2020 and the TD-50X sound module in 2021 led to a groundbreaking decision for me. As a true lover of acoustic drum sounds and the optical effect of "real" drum shells, as well as a big friend of the flexibility and creative possibilities of electronic drums, my VAD sets in connection with the tactile monitoring system by Porter & Davis, for me now bring the best of both worlds - a variety of dynamic, powerful, acoustic and electronic drum sounds and a playing feel that is in no way inferior to that of an acoustic drum set, as well as a great look. What do YOU all mean?
For me, the development has now reached the point where I am taking a future-oriented and consistent step towards drums of the 21st century.
The advantages of this drum system outweigh the disadvantages in many aspects and so my students from now on also enjoy playing V-Drums. My classroom is fully equipped with these sets. Welcome to the future of drumming! 🥁
Also with regard to my symmetrical set structure, electronic drums offer completely new possibilities.
After all the reviews on the development of my "Symmetrical Drumming" I now present you my current, newest kit, powered by "only" one TD-50X sound module 😍.

Und dann kamen die VAD!

Die Vorstellung der neuen Roland VAD (V-Drums Acoustic Design) im Jahr 2020 und des TD-50X Sound Moduls in 2021 führte für mich zu einer bahnbrechenden Entscheidung. Als wahrer Liebhaber akustischer Drum Sounds und der optischen Wirkung "echter" Trommelkessel, als auch großer Freund der Flexibilität sowie kreativen Möglichkeiten elektronischer Schlagzeuge, erlebe ich mit meinen VAD-Sets in Verbindung mit dem taktilen Monitoring-System von Porter & Davis nun das für mich Beste aus beiden Welten - vielfältige dynamische, druckvolle, akustische und elektronische Drum Sounds und ein Spielgefühl, welches dem eines akustischen Drum Sets in nichts mehr nachsteht, sowie eine hammergeile Optik. Was meint IHR?
Die Entwicklung ist für mich nun an dem Punkt angekommen, bei dem ich einen zukunftsorientierten und konsequenten Schritt in Richtung Schlagzeug des einundzwanzigsten Jahrhunderts gehe.
Die Vorteile dieses Drum-Systems überwiegen in vielerlei Hinsicht und so kommen nun auch meine Schüler inzwischen in den Genuss, V-Drums zu erleben. Mein Unterrichtsraum ist komplett mit diesen Sets ausgestattet. Willkommen in der Zukunft des Drumming!
Auch in Bezug auf meinen symmetrischen Setaufbau bieten elektronische Schlagzeuge völlig neue Möglichkeiten.
Nach allen Rückblicken auf die Entwicklung meines "Symmetrical Drumming" präsentiere ich euch hier nun mein aktuelles, neustes Kit, angetrieben von "lediglich" einem TD-50X Soundmodul.

2020: Das symmetrische Roland V-Drum Kit!
Seit den 80ern beschäftige ich mich auch mit elektronischen Schlagzeugen und habe diese immer wieder als Ergänzung oder als reines E-Drumset auf der Bühne eingesetzt. Angefangen mit Simmons- und Dynacord-Drums, über Sampler, DDrums bis hin zu den ersten Roland V-Drum Kits war alles im Einsatz.
In über 30 Jahren Entwicklung hat sich auf dem elektronischen Schlagzeug-Sektor Einiges getan und mit Vorstellung des Roland TD-50 im Jahr 2016 bot sich auch eine immer realistische Alternative zum Akustik-Set.
So kreierte ich im Jahr 2020 mein erstes komplett symmetrisches Roland V-Drum Kit auf Basis zweier TD-50KV.

Since the 80s I've also been dealing with electronic drums and have always used them as a supplement or as a pure E-drumset on stage. Everything was in use, starting with Simmons and Dynacord drums, samplers, DDrums and the first Roland V-Drum kits.
In more than 30 years of development a lot has happened in the electronic drums sector and the presentation of the TD-50 in 2016 offered also an always realistic alternative to the acoustic set.
So in 2020 I created my first fully symmetrical Roland V-Drum Kit based on two TD-50KV.

Throwback Tuesday!

In 2017 I changed my symmetrical setup again. I never had until then, but always wanted to play 2 bass drums at some point 😜. Time had come! I added a second kick drum, so switched to 2 single pedals and reduced the tom toms. Bad ass! 🤘😁 What do YOU think?

Throwback Monday!

In 2015/16 I also used my symmetrical kit for some shows we did with Jen Majura's DOZ of HELL. That was a lot of fun too and a really totally different stile of music 😜🤘.

2015: After releasing our 1st Album we went on tour playing various shows all over germany. My symmetrical kit was with me 🤘🥁. Doesn’t it look bad ass? 😜

Throwback Saturday!

Later in 2015 I bought a new Shell Set in Pewter Sparkle Finish Ply for touring. I wanted a little more industrial look and for this one switched to 16” and 18” floor toms 😜🤘.
I also used it for recording our first LICHTGESTALT album “Motorenherz”.
From then on I used the „Black Mirra“-Kit for rehearsing and the „Pewter Sparkle“-Kit for live.

Ab 2007 habe ich das Konzept des symmetrischen Trommelns einige Jahre nicht weiter verfolgt, bis 2014 die NDH-Band "LICHTGESTALT" geboren wurde, für die ich ein neues, symmetrisches Drum Setup mit einem Designer Rack aus Rack-Elementen der Firma Gibraltar kreierte. Ziel dieser Rackkonstruktion war es, 3 einzelne und jeweils für sich unabhängig frei stehende Rackteile zu bauen, um einen schnellen Auf- und Abbau zu gewährleisten. Zudem sollte es ein „Eyecatcher“ auf der Bühne sein.
Zwischenzeitig hatte ich zu DW Drums (Performance Series) gewechselt. Das Finish: Black Mirra 😍! Diese spezielle Lackierung gibt es inzwischen nur noch in der Collector's Serie.
Bei diesem Set kamen zwei DW Closed Hi-Hat Halter zum Einsatz, da ich für die Art von Musik keine Pedale benötigte.

From 2007 I did not pursue the concept of symmetrical drumming for a few years until the NDH-Band "LICHTGESTALT" was born in 2014, for which I created a new, symmetrical drum setup with a designer rack made of rack elements from Gibraltar. The aim of this rack construction was to build 3 individual and independent rack parts to ensure quick assembly and disassembly. It should also be an "eye-catcher" on stage.
In the meantime I had switched to DW Drums (Performance Series). The finish: Black Mirra 😍! This special finish is now only available in the Collector's Series.
Two DW closed Hi-Hat holders were used in this set, since I didn't need pedals for the type of music.

2005: I switched from Tama Iron Cobra 900 Lever Glide Hi-Hat Stands to DW 9502LB Remote Cable Hi-Hats to place both Hi-Hats more comfortable and out of the way and better reach the Tom Toms.
