We were delighted to welcome students from Kookmin University, South Korea, to our campus recently for an immersive experience exploring sustainability and finding out more about university life at Middlesex University Dubai.
As part of their visit, students from both institutions took part in a collaborative sustainability workshop, exploring pressing global challenges through case studies from the Middle East and Korea. The sessions, led by Rhoderick Romano, Rory McConnon and Mahine Rizvi Ahmad, highlighted the power of international collaboration in fostering innovative, cross-cultural solutions.
Students also had the chance to tour our campus and facilities, exploring what university life has to offer in the heart of Dubai!
We look forward to more opportunities that connect our global academic community.

We're delighted to announce the recent success of our CEI students at the TAFU-BCS Award for Youth & Innovation, with students from the Computer Engineering and Informatics (CEI) department clinching some of the top spots! The platform provided students with an opportunity to submit their innovative ideas in the domain of sustainability, with several student groups submitting their innovative ideas in the undergraduate category of the competition.
Second year Engineering students Rayaan Rafique and Mohammed Abdulla Bagosher won 1st place for their idea EcoVibe. Umer Farhan, another second year Engineering student was placed 2nd for his project Easy Braille. Three other teams from MDX Dubai rounded up the list of 5 shortlisted finalists and received honourable mention at the awards.
The award ceremony was held at IBM’s London offices, where Rayaan received the winning trophy on behalf of his team, and other MDX students joined via the live stream. The top two teams were mentored by Dr. Sumitra Kotipalli.
Professor Fehmida Hussain, Deputy Director Engagement & Student Experience and Head of CEI commented “We’re proud to celebrate our students’ recent success at the TAFU-BCS Awards - a testament to their talent and our strong association with BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Professional body affiliations like BCS play a vital role in bridging education with industry, inspiring excellence and empowering our students to thrive in the evolving tech landscape."
We extend thanks to TAFU (Teens and Friends United) for the inaugural event and their initiatives in empowering the youth voice for everything related to sustainability and to Nika Underwood and Julia Underwood, for their vision with TAFU.
